Supporting non-profit animal rescues

Planet

Actions speak louder than words when it comes to giving back to the community. This time, we turn our focus to a cause that often goes unspoken but carries immense significance—animal welfare. Through partnerships with local shelters and welfare organisations in Malaysia and the UAE, we’re working to provide second chances for animals in need and create meaningful change both within our teams and for the communities we serve.

Supporting Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue (MIAR)

Deriv employees at the Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue (MIAR) with dogs, supporting animal welfare.

MIAR has become a safe haven for animals that have suffered neglect or abuse. Their dedication to rescuing, sheltering, and rehoming animals resonates deeply with us at Deriv. The shelter currently houses over 500 dogs with only a small team to care for them.

In January, our team in Malaysia spent a day at MIAR, rolling up their sleeves to help with the shelter’s daily operations. From feeding the animals to cleaning enclosures and walking the dogs, they contributed their time and energy to support the shelter’s mission. We also provided practical assistance by donating essential items like pet food, medical equipment, and cleaning supplies. These contributions are aimed at easing MIAR’s challenges, allowing them to focus on their critical work with fewer worries. It was an afternoon filled with love and energy, and we intend to begin a long-term collaboration by building their visibility to boost the shelter's adoption rate.

Making a difference at Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Animal Welfare Centre

Deriv employees volunteering at Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Animal Welfare Centre, interacting with dogs and donating supplies to support the animals.

Over in the UAE, the RAK Animal Welfare Centre has been working tirelessly to rescue and rehome abandoned animals. Guided by their vision of finding every cat and dog a loving home, RAK organised a memorable 'snow party,' creating a winter wonderland where shelter pets could meet potential adopters.

Deriv volunteers spent time at the shelter, engaging directly with the animals through play, care, and walks. Alongside their hands-on efforts, they made donations of food and supplies to help sustain the shelter’s operations.

Beyond these efforts, conversations with the shelter manager have opened doors for long-term collaborations, like adoption drives and campaigns on responsible pet ownership. To volunteer or help, follow the center on

Making new K9 Friends in Dubai

Deriv employees with a dog at K9 Friends NGO, showing their support and participation in the animal shelter initiative.

K9 Friends is a volunteer-run, self-funded shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for abandoned and stray dogs in the UAE. With 120 dogs currently in their care and over 50 more on the waiting list, maintaining the shelter and ensuring a safe, healthy environment with limited resources is an ongoing challenge. They collaborate with corporate organisations and schools to raise awareness and encourage foster care, adoption, and volunteering.

To help support this mission, our team visited K9 Friends in February, to spend time with the dogs, and provide much-needed financial aid. Our volunteers also contributed toys, food, and essential supplies, helping to sustain the shelter’s ongoing efforts.

Shaping a Kinder Future

For us at Deriv, social responsibility means identifying where help is needed and taking thoughtful action to address those needs. By supporting MIAR, RAK Animal Welfare Centre, and K9 Friends, we are stepping up to ensure that vulnerable animals have a chance at better lives. We’re excited to continue building these partnerships and exploring new ways to make a difference. Stay tuned for updates on our next initiatives.
