Join our free Deriv Tech Talk, where we introduce Deriv to the tech community through AI-focused talks and panel discussions. This curated session is your chance to connect with noted industry panelists and Deriv engineers and get early exposure ahead of the hackathon.

Application & selection

Apply as an individual or a team to join the Deriv AI Hackathon. Participants are curated based on their profiles, with shortlisted applicants invited to compete in the virtual hackathon stage.

Virtual hackathon (7–8 Feb)

Build and submit your AI-powered solution during the interactive 24-hour virtual hackathon. After live pitching to our judges, top 50 teams will advance to the next round.

Pre-hack briefing (11 Feb, virtual)

Shortlisted teams will attend a virtual pre-hack briefing to understand expectations, judging criteria, and logistics for the upcoming physical hackathon.

On-site hackathon (14–15 Feb)

The top 50 teams will be invited to an on-site hackathon at Deriv HQ, Cyberjaya to compete with mentorship from Deriv engineers. Judges will shortlist the top 10 teams for the grand finals.

Demo & award ceremony (15 Feb)

The top 10 teams will pitch their solutions live on the main stage to a panel of judges. Winners will be announced, with RM 30,000 in cash prizes and the opportunity to be considered for roles at Deriv.

FAQs

How do I apply to participate?

Just click the "Join the challenge" button, complete the application form, and introduce yourself. Only shortlisted participants will be invited to join the competition. We can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to the table.

Is the event open to non-Malaysians?

Yes, as long as you are currently residing in Malaysia with a valid PR, work, or student visa.

Is there a registration fee?

No, it’s free to participate. All you need to do is apply to join, wait for the confirmation, and bring your enthusiasm… and laptops!

Do I need to have a team to participate?

No, you don't need a team to participate. You can apply as an individual and we'll assign teams before the hackathon (you'll meet your team at the pre-hack briefing). If you are joining with friends, just let us know in the registration form and we'll do our best to team you up. All teams will have 5 participants each.

I’m not a coder. Can I still join?

Absolutely! You don’t need to be a coder to join. While teams will need AI coding expertise, other skills such as design, project management, research, or strategy are just as valuable, and we’ll form balanced teams before the event.

Do participants need to come to Cyberjaya on the hackathon days?

No, not at the start. The first stage of the hackathon will be held virtually. Only the top 50 teams that qualify for the finals will need to attend in person at Deriv HQ, Cyberjaya, on 14–15 February 2026.

What if I need to rest during the hackathon?

No worries! You’re welcome to stay overnight at Deriv HQ and we will provide a safe space to rest. You can take power naps in between coding. Please bring your own sleeping bags, pillows, toiletries, etc.

Is food provided during the hackathon?

Yes. We’ll offer full meals, a variety of snacks, and beverages throughout the physical hackathon in Deriv HQ to keep you energised and focused as you work on your projects.

How long is the hackathon?

The hackathon begins with a virtual stage on 7–8 February 2026, running from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The top 50 teams will advance to a two-day in-person final at Deriv HQ in Cyberjaya on 14–15 February 2026, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, concluding with final demos and the award ceremony.

What are the judging criteria?

Judges will look for innovation, practicality, functionality, and design. Your team’s technical ability and presentation will also play a role in the evaluation.

How do we present our work?

Your team will demo the prototype live in front of judges at the venue. Submission details will be made clear during the event.

What should I bring to the in-person hackathon?

Please bring your laptops, chargers, and any other tools you need.
