Innovation meets scale at Deriv’s second AI hackathon
Building on the success of our inaugural AI event, Deriv’s second AI Hackathon in Cyberjaya has set new benchmarks for innovation and participation.
The event, powered by JomHack, a leading hackathon organiser, attracted over 200 brilliant minds who formed 56 teams, delivering 51 prototypes in just 24 hours, competing for a total prize pool of RM40,000.

What Deriv's second hackathon competition involved
This hackathon introduced six comprehensive challenge tracks:
- UI Validator
- Dispute Resolution
- Social Trading
- Threat Scanner
- Fraud Prevention
- Payment Resolution
Each track addressed critical aspects of modern trading platforms, pushing participants to develop solutions that could revolutionise the trading experience.
Deriv’s expert mentorship and technical support

Our technical teams provided unprecedented support throughout the event. Experts from our Client Apps, Trading, Security, Customer Support, Payments, and Anti-Fraud teams worked closely with participants, offering insights into real-world applications and technical guidance.
This collaborative approach ensured that innovations were both technically sound and practically applicable. The participants’ systems were backed by Deriv’s fast and secure internet networks and we livestreamed all the final presentations. You can catch them on YouTube here.
Meet the AI champions and their winning projects

After intense competition and thorough evaluation, these teams emerged as leaders in innovation:
Champion: Team Phantom - Prize: RM15,000
Their winning project “HiveTrade” revolutionises social trading by seamlessly integrating AI and gamification elements. The platform creates an innovative ecosystem where traders can learn, interact, and profit together while being guided by AI-powered insights and engaging gameplay mechanics. This solution stands out for its potential to transform how trading communities interact and grow together.
First runner-up: Team StrifeBot - Prize: RM10,00
Focusing on dispute resolution, StrifeBot introduced a groundbreaking approach to P2P transaction disputes. Their system combines automated resolution with real-time AI behaviour monitoring, significantly reducing the need for human intervention while maintaining high security standards. The solution effectively balances efficiency with fraud prevention, setting new standards for P2P trading platforms.
Second runner-up: Team SwAIpe - Prize: RM5,000
SwAIpe reimagined social trading through an AI-infused platform delivering expert insights via engaging short-form videos. Their innovative approach makes complex trading concepts accessible and engaging, creating an intuitive experience for both novice traders and experts alike.
Fourth place: Team Git Br4nch - Prize: RM2,000
The team developed a comprehensive dispute prevention and resolution system that takes a proactive approach to fraud prevention. Their solution combines AI-driven dispute precedence strategies with automated resolution mechanisms, effectively preventing scams before they occur while providing swift resolution when disputes arise.
Fifth place: Team Git Lucky - Prize: RM1,000
Their “Automated Dispute Resolution System” impressed judges with its sophisticated orchestration of AI agents. The system efficiently prevents fraud through intent detection and automatically resolves disputes in alignment with Deriv’s Terms and Conditions, streamlining the entire resolution process.
Internal innovation excellence

In the internal category, Team Thug Busters from Deriv secured the top position with a prize of RM10,000, demonstrating our commitment to fostering innovation within our own teams.

- Best video: Chong Kok Hinz (Isaac) from Team Black Scorpion - RM1,000
- Most liked video: Khairol Izzul Firdaus from Team VeriSense - RM500
